It hurt.
At nearly every waking moment, it hurt.
He couldn't work. Holding anything increased the pain by tenfold. Progress had grinded to a halt. All because of an experiment that didn't even succeed in the first place.

After months of wrist pain affecting his hability to work, Gaster gives in to his frustration and only makes the problem worse. Or it would have been, if Asgore hadn't shown up.
Gaster hurt hand. Comfort ensues.

Skeletons were a long lived kind of monster, but long lived does not mean immortal.
Sooner or later, Asgore would lose him.

The language of flowers became a game for Asgore and Gaster. Subtle meanings hidden in each flower, all the pieces waiting to be put together. A test of sorts, to uncover the unsaid parts of Asgore's gestures.

The five times Asgore tested Gaster, and the one time Gaster reciprocated.
